George Takei Reaches Out to Latino Commuity, Warns Against Trump Presidency

George Takei sends a message to Spanish speaking voters

In a recently released Facebook video, Star Trek actor and LGBTQ advocate George Takei uses his Spanish-speaking skills to compare Trump’s platform on Mexican immigrants today to the racist propaganda used by the Roosevelt administration against Japanese Americans during World War II.

“Back then, they simply said, ‘A Jap is a Jap,’ and we lost our homes and freedom, even though two thirds of us were U.S. citizens,” Takei said, commenting on his childhood incarceration in a Japanese incarceration camp. “Today, Trump tells his supporters that a ‘Mexican is a Mexican.’ He is playing upon the same fears and ignorance that once led this country to intern my family.”

“Today, Trump wants to forcibly round up 100 times the number [of people] interned in 1942,” he continues, referring to the number of 11.4 million estimated Mexican immigrants living in the United States.

He urges his Latino fans to register to vote. In swing states like Nevada, Colorado, New Mexico – and potentially Arizona and Texas, too –  Latinos have the voting power to prevent Trump from becoming the next American president.
