It’s no secret among Asian American men in the online dating world that it can be difficult to get a date.
Asian American men rank with Black women as the least likely to get a date online.
The Washington Post talked to two Asian American men who’ve had success in the online dating world about their successful strategies.
Alan Montecillo who is Filipino American had to think real hard about whether he wanted to list his ethnicity in his profile.
In the end, he did and he has no regrets. He met his current girlfriend on OK Cupid.

He emphasized his interests and kept his profile, as he describes it, short and interesting.
He only needed his profile to “work once.”
“I think there was a long time where I felt ashamed, ashamed or self-conscious, or attributing me being single to the fact that I don’t have these qualities and I need to have these qualities in order to attract people,” he said. “Even though intellectually I knew it wasn’t true, but emotionally [I was] blaming myself for not meeting a seemingly objective standard of what is attractive.”
MC Maltempo, 36, is Korean American. He decided he wasn’t going to limit himself to messaging one women a week so as not to exhaust and depress himself.
“It makes it seem like there’s a dialogue going on from the very beginning,” he said. “Dialogue rather than just messaging.”
It worked. He married a women he found on Match.com a year after meeting her.
