Two young Asian American musical talents debuted their new single on Radio Disney this week.
Smoke from Distant Fires is a catchy pop tune from American Idol’s Sonika Vaid, 21, and Will Jay, 20, formerly of the boy band IM5.
Jay is of Chinese and German descent. He was an original member of the boy band IM5, but left last year to pursue his own musical career. IM5 was formed in 2010 by the creator of the Idol franchise, Simon Fuller, along with celebrity gossip columnist Perez Hilton and music director Jamie King.
Vaid came on the national stage after placing fifth on the final season of American Idol. The Indian American is from Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts. This duet is her first recording and music video.
We look forward to hearing a lot more from these two musical prodigies.
