Signaling greater acceptance of Indian Americans into the mainstream, the U.S. Postal Service will issue a stamp commemorating the Hindu festival of Diwali or Festival of Lights.
The stamp is the result of 7 years of lobbying, reports New Indian Express.
“This has been a long and arduous process but this act by the USPS to recognize this special day and to further increase and enrich our nation’s tapestry of religious and cultural diversity will be greatly appreciated by many,” Rep Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI) said.
The stamp which will depict a traditional diya against a bold background and the words “forever USA.”
