Sources tell Diverse Education that California Governor Jerry Brown will likely sign into law a bill mandating that ethnic studies be taught in California public high schools.

If that happens, many predict other states would follow suit.

“The time is now to pass a bill that will truly deal with the education achievement gap in California high schools and the equality of how history is taught in the high school classroom,” said Reverend Shane Harris, the president of the San Diego chapter of National Action Network.

Harris is hopeful enough revisions have been made to the bill for Brown to support it. Last year, the governor vetoed a similar bill.

He is urging supporters to phone and write letters to the governor to support the measure.
