Star Trek actor George Takei plans to donate memorabilia from his life to the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles.

The exhibit will include souvenirs from his time on Star Trek and memories from his run for Los Angeles City Council in 1973.

The collection is called “New Frontiers: The Many Worlds of George Takei,” and will be open March 12, 2017.

Among the donated items are photographs, correspondence, scripts, awards and campaign materials from his 1973 run for Los Angeles City Council. He’s also donated a sculpture made by his father while he was incarcerated by Rohwer concentration camp in Arkansas during World War II as well as the Olympic torch Takei carried prior to the 1984 Summer Olympic games in Los Angeles.

“George is fearless in his stand against discrimination and injustice, and in his determination to take on the toughest social issues and protect the most vulnerable,” said said the museum’s Interim President and CEO Ann Burroughs. “He is an inspiration to the Japanese American community and to people across the world. He and his husband, Brad, have assiduously collected and saved important artifacts that bring to life his many remarkable achievements. We are proud to be the stewards of this collection and will ensure that they are protected and accessible in perpetuity.”

Takei has a long history with the JANM and even named the museum as his charity during his short-lived appearance on Celebrity Apprentice in 2008.

The 79-year old Takei has openly expressed a desire to leave a legacy. He described his Broadway show Allegiance as his legacy project, but clearly he is not done.
