Seattle Seahawk Doug Baldwin says he is the latest NFL player to receive death threats following statements he made in support of San Francisco 49er Colin Kaepernick’s stance on the deaths of African Americans during encounters with police.
Just as Kaepernick has, Baldwin who is Filipino American has taken it all in stride.
“If something was to happen to me, I think that would just further prove my point that there are issues in our culture, in our society that need to be changed,” he said in an interview airing Tuesday at 8 p.m. on Showtime’s 60 Minutes Sports.
Baldwin organized his teammates into locking arms during the national anthem in a quiet protest.
“So now we’re having this conversation. I’m fortunate enough and glad that he did that,”Baldwin said about Kaepernick. “He took the leadership role, stepped up, took the hits, and now we’re able to move forward with this conversation.”
