The Dayton Daily News reports a teacher placed on leave after telling an Asian student “You Chinese are supposed to make computers, and you’re breaking them instead” may have a history of making such remarks.

Files obtained by the Daily News through a public records request found teacher Katherine Klimach of Butler Tech and Fairfield High School has been cited for making other troubling comments towards students.

A disciplinary letter in her file dated October 14 from the head of human resources accused Klimach of telling a minority student who asked a question without raising her hand, ““That’s not how we do things in our country.”

The same letter also accused Klimach of saying “I have to pay attention more to the kids that are slow in the classroom, and I know you noticed that (student’s name redacted).”

According to the letter, Klimach denied making the comments.

“Your actions to address students in any way in regards to race or lack of intelligence or motivation constitutes a poor choice in judgment, careless behavior and an apparent disregard for the policies and procedures that are intended to promote professionalism,” wrote HR Director Marni Durham.

“Because of your poor choice in judgment in this situation and due to exhibiting a pattern of poor choices in judgment, I write this letter as a formal disciplinary letter. Any future inappropriate actions could result in the termination of your contract,” Durham continued.

Klimach was not available for comment.
