Glamour Brasil Feeling Heat from Slanty Eye Instagram Post

Glamour Brasil

By Louis Chan

Nearly a week after Glamour Brasil posted a shot on Instagram of its staff in Japan giving the camera the racist slant eye, the magazine is still facing an avalanche of anger.

The post was long ago removed, but screen shots of the gaffe have been making the rounds on social media.

“Still a racist company who protects a racist staff,” wrote one poster this morning on Glamour Brasil’s Instagram page.

“#YouSuck,#unfollow, #Glamourbrasil, #Racist,” wrote another.

This reminds me of the uproar over the men’s and women’s basketball team in Spain striking the same pose in 2008.

Of course, this stuff happens all the time here in the U.S. too, but usually on the playground and not on social or mass media.

Glamour has apologized, but its finding out once the damage is done, it’s hard to take it back.
