LA Times: Chinese Immigrants Enjoy Their Newfound Gun Rights

Gun EffectsThe owner of a gun shop near Los Angeles doesn’t know how it happens, but suddenly 40 percent of his customers are Chinese.

The Los Angeles Times reports many are Chinese immigrants  who are surprised to learn its legal to own a gun in the United States and are now exercising their rights.

The store’s owner, Dennis Lin, has had to hire two Chinese speaking employees to meet the demand.

“I don’t even know how this happened, really,” Lin said to the Times. “In the past, most of our business has been with non-Chinese customers.”

Some of those Chinese customers witnessed by a reporter buying a gun for the first time seemed unsure, even nervous about their transaction.

“Are you sure police won’t try to get me?” one Chinese customer asked.

Their hesitancy is understandable when you realize its illegal to own a gun in China.

“I just tell them don’t be scared. It’s legal here,” Lin  of Gun Effects said.

Those Chinese customers have been part of a surge in gun buyers rushing to get their weapons before tough new restrictive gun laws passed by voters in California go into effect in 2017.

So where do Chinese Americans stand on gun control.

You can read more about that in the Los Angeles Times .
