Los Angeles Police have not been able to confirm that an assailant who left an 83-year old Korean woman bloodied screamed “white power” before running off.
A viral Facebook post by Linda Lee of the photo has since been made private. In the post, Lee says a friend who witnessed the attack quoted the suspect as making the racially explosive remarks.
The Los Angeles Times reports the suspect who went by the name of Patty Garcia has been booked on suspicion of battery and is being held on $50,000 bail. Garcia is accused of striking the woman in Koreatown on the back of the head.
Investigators say they can’t find any witnesses who heard Garcia make racial remarks, however the Times talked to Koreatown resident Seng Vongphrachanh who said he told police he heard the suspect scream “power is power” and the “N” word.
Authorities say they are not investigating the case as a hate crime.
