Hundreds of thousands of people in San Francisco turned out Saturday night under fair skies to celebrate the the Year of the Rooster in the largest celebration of Asian culture outside of Asia.

The sound of firecrackers echoed off San Francisco high rises as spectators plugged their ears while looking in awe at the colorful spectacle.

Lion and dragon dances, floats with glittering lights, little children in Chinese costumes and marching bands highlighted the parade. The usual array of politicians and pageant queens and contestants enthusiastically waved to the attentive crowd.

The city which has seen a welcomed amount of steady rain this season after years of drought got a reprieve from the wet weather Saturday.
