We know a little more about what happened when a police dog from the Coon Rapids Police Department in Minnesota was ordered to attack an 81-year-old Hmong American grandmother in her own backyard.

Some of you may have seen a video we posted on AsAmNews’ Facebook page of a calm man asking an equally calm officer why he ordered his canine to attack the woman.

“Think about your grandma. If I do that to your grandma, are you going to be happy?” the man asked Officer Brian Sternquist as he walked away.

Some 200 protesters demonstrated outside the Coon Rapids Police Department demanding answers about what happened.

According to WCCO, police were called to the home by a neighbor who said she suspected a burglary was in progress.

Officers who arrived say they saw a person turn off a flashlight and disappear into the backyard shed. They go onto say their orders for the person to come out of the shed were ignored.

A picture obtained by WCCO show 81-year-old Choua Xiong with a gash on her arm after the police dog attacked her.

“We want changes so every persons of different skin color can be treated with equality,” Wa Houa Ve, with the Hmong 18 Clan Council, said.

The protesters were joined by supporters of St. Paul black Lives Matter.

Police say the officer personally went to the hospital to apologize to Xiong.
