Indian American fashion designer Mac Duggal brought his A-game to the runway recently at  New York Fashion Week (NYFW) 2017,  Duggal’s first show at NYFW,

Duggal’s new fashion line unveiled at a show last weekend featured unconventional slacks, shorts and body suits and floor length capes. For those who want the conventional, there was also the usual glimmering gowns adorned to impress.

Born in India and arriving to the U.S. in 1983 at 23 years old, Duggal got a lot of inspiration for his designs from his homeland. He merges the vibrant styles of Indian royal history and traditions with contemporary approaches. Duggal’s Indian heritage has continued to inspire him since the start – Duggal’s first collection, Creative Creations, blended Indian and Western elements into elegant gowns. His fabric choices tend to be sophisticated yet colorful.

Duggal’s brand is best known for its high fashion designer prom dresses, which won him the 1998 Diva Fashion Award for Designer of the Year in the Prom/Pageant category, among many other awards since then. The Mac Duggal Design House displays an understanding of the modern woman, with Mac Duggal formal gown wear being massively popular in over 30 countries already.

Summer 2017 will bring with it the opening of the exhibit Many Voices, One Nation at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History in Washington, DC. The exhibit will be exploring the enriching history of American migration, with Mac Duggal chosen by the Smithsonian to share his own story of struggle and success in the exhibit, as he serves as an inspiration to many immigrants today.
