Asian Americans Like It Fresh

Bok ChoyNo body does it fresher than Asian Americans.

A survey from the research firm Nielsen has found that Asian Americans are 39 percent more likely to buy produce than other consumers, reports
The Packer. Hispanics are 8 percent more likely.

That’s why you’re seeing more items like bean sprouts, bok choy, brocholini, pea pods, Chinese celery and different types of cabbage at the supermarket.

Asian Americans, Hispanics and African Americans made up 92 percent of the U.S. population growth from 2000 to 2014. Retailers doing the math are catering to the multicultural consumer.

“Retailers must consider the multi-ethnic tastes of their current and desired customers and recognize that the palates that favor multicultural flavors are influencing the taste preferences of non-Hispanic whites and society at-large,” Courtney Jones, vice president of multicultural growth and strategy at Nielsen, said.

Analysts predict you’ll be seeing changes in restaurant menus as well to cater to changing tastes.
