To no one’s surprise, a Filipino American attorney got nominated to be the next Solicitor General, just not the Filipino American everyone was expecting to be named.
Mr. Trump picked Noel Francisco, currently the acting Solicitor General, to become the government’s lawyer in front of the U.S. Supreme Court.
The other FilAm attorney up for the job was George Conway, husband of Trump’s senior advisor Kelly Ann Conway. Because of her closes ties to Trump and other members of the White House staff, it was thought that her husband would have a slight edge over the other half-dozen candidates.
Prior to his nomination Francisco, until this year was a partner at the Jones Day law firm and a former Justice Department official under George W. Bush.

The 47-year-old Francisco, who would be the nation’s 47th solicitor general, has been filling the vacancy in that office since being named principal deputy solicitor general in January.
Francisco was raised in Oswego, N.Y. He received his B.A. with honors in 1991 from the University of Chicago. He received his J.D. with high honors in 1996 from the University of Chicago Law School.
