When then candidate Donald Trump said he wanted to deport the “bad hombres,” Helen Beristain didn’t think she meant her husband.

Now five months after she voted for the Republican candidate, her husband is being deported.

The South Bend Tribune reports that Roberto Beristain has signed papers agreeing to be deported as early as this past Friday.

Beristain owns the popular Eddie’s Steak Shed in Granger, Indiana.

He was ordered to voluntarily deport back in 2000 when immigration agents discovered his status when he and his wife accidentally crossed the U.S. Canadian border. Roberto worked closely with immigration enforcement officers to gain a work permit, a social security number and driver’s license to avoid deportation-until now.

He was detained during a routine immigration check in in February.

“[Trump] did say the good people would not be deported, the good people would be checked,” Helen said.

She sees the irony of being a Trump voter, and now being a victim of the President’s policies.

“We don’t want to have cartels here, you don’t want to have drugs in your high schools, you don’t want killers next to you,” Helen said to Indiana Public Media. “You want to feel safe when you leave your house. I truly believe that. And, this is why I voted for Mr. Trump.”

The family hopes that by cooperating with immigration, they will increase the chance of Roberto returning to the United States. He is from Mexico. His wife is from Greece.

  2. RE: Husband of President Trump supporter to be deported: Perhaps she should get her ducks in order. She appears to be an emigrant too.

  3. RE: Husband of President Trump Supporter to be deported: People really need to get a clue… bad hombre are All Latinos, He’s tired of looking at people who don’t look like his people so they have to go. If he could get rid of women he decided was unacceptable to his eyes, he would.
