An actor from Singapore and Malaysia has been tapped to play the male lead in the upcoming movie, Crazy Rich Asians .

The Hollywood Reporter broke the story that Henry Golding has been chosen to play Nick Young in the adaptation of Kelvin Kwan’s best selling book.

Golding is a relative unknown in the United States. Jon Chu said he was going to cast his net worldwide and he made good on his promise.

Golding’s mother is from Malaysia and his father from England. He had an appearance in 2016 on episode 2 of the horror web series, Wolf Creek which airs on the Australian network, Stan.

He also had a role in the Australian TV drama ANZAC Girls in 2014.

The actor describes himself as an avid photographer and videographer.Henry Golding

His personal website says “he has always viewed the world with equally eastern and western values.” He grew up in Britain, but says his return to Asia in 2008 was “inevitable.”

He is an avid traveler and has hosted numerous travel shows.

“Getting back to nature such as a jungle just puts everything back into perspective,” he wrote in 2013 about his journey to Taman Negara, Malaysia’s biggest natural park.

Nature he says, has a way to put you in your place.

“You feel how small and insignificant you are underneath the thousands if not millions of bats hanging from the rafters leaving mountains of guano in there wake,” he said about his trip to Malaysia’s Mulu National Park.

More importantly, Golding screams the sex appeal demanded by his role.

He will play aside more established U.S. stars as Constance Wu of Fresh Off the Boat fame and former bond girl Michelle Yeoh.

Crazy Rich Asians from Warner Bros will feature an all Asian cast.
