Reality Star Farrah Abraham Accused of Cultural Appropriation at MTV Movie & TV Awards

Reality TV star Farrah Abraham took a I don’t give a damn attitude to the MTV Movie & TV Awards in Los Angeles Sunday, wearing a bindi and almost daring someone to call her out for cultural appropriation.

Hindus are demanding an apology, saying her remark that she felt “freaking amazing and sexy” was “inappropriate.”

Rajan Zed of the Universal Society of Hinduism reminded Abraham that the bindi on the forehead is of religious significance and not meant as a fashion accessory.

Abraham, however, said she saw herself as bringing culture to the runway and told Too Fab “I think this will inspire others to embrace new cultures and have good experiences.”

If you don’t watch MTV, chances are you’ve never heard of Abraham. She came on the scene in 16 and Pregnant in 2009, moving on to Teen Mom.

Zed described the bindi as an “auspicious religious and spiritual symbol, and was also used for meditative purposes.
