Anti-Muslim Letter Slams Candidate Day Before Election

anti-Muslim letterA disturbing letter espousing anti-Muslim views has surfaced in the town of Shrewsbury near Boston.

The letter targeted a candidate for selectman just one day before the election.

According to Mass Live, the letter read “Say no to any Muslim governance to our peaceful communities!! Help stop making America another Europistan. We do not want any Muslim person to be ruling our communities.”

Rashid Shaikh was one of five candidates for selectman in the town of 35,000, but did not win.

He stressed that he loved this country to the Boston Globe.

“Shrewsbury is a great town,” he said. “I love this country and this town. “There are so many people who have shown love and kindness to us.  This [letter] is a very small percent of the community.”

Police say they will first identify a suspect before deciding if any crime had been committed.

“I’m deeply saddened by the lies and personal attacks, Shaikh wrote on Facebook. Unfortunately, the culprit may not be punished by the law but will surely get karma some day,” Shaikh wrote.

The letter surfaced the same week the Council on American Islamic Relations  reported a 57 percent increase in anti-Muslim bias and a more than 40 percent hate crimes.
