A television show about a mixed race family based on the life of Fresh Off the Boat co-executive producer Kourtney Kang has been rejected by NBC.

Kang was born in Hawaii and grew up as a girl in the only mixed-race family in Philadelphia.

Actor Fred Savage and Fresh Off the Boat executive producer Nahnatchka Khan were also part of the creative team.

NBC had ordered a pilot, but decided not to pick up the show.

According to Deadline, still in consideration by NBC is Mindy Kaling and Charlie Grandy’s pilot Champions.

Kaling would reportedly have a recurring role in the program.

It would star Andy Favreau (Aquarius) opposite Anders Holm. Holm would play the unambitious owner of a gym who lives with his brother (Favreau) who’s described as a good looking idiot.
