Shadowhunters star Harry Shum Jr. will join the cast of the film adaptation of Kevin Kwan’s best-seller Crazy Rich Asians, reports The Hollywood Reporter.  The all-Asian cast includes Contance Wu of Fresh off the Boat, Michelle Yeoh of Crouching Tiger and Hidden Dragon, Gemma Chan of Humans, and rapper Awkwafina.

Crazy Rich Asians, directed by John M. Chu, tells the story of Chinese American economics professor Rachel Chu, who is played by Wu, who travels to Singapore to attend a wedding for her boyfriend’s best friend’s wedding. After visiting his hometown in Singapore Wu finds out her boyfriend, a history professor played by Nick Young, comes from a wealthy family and is the most eligible bachelor in Asia – meaning every single woman in his hometown wants to sabotage their relationship and marry him.

Sources say that Harry Shum Jr., best known for his role as Michael Chang in Glee and Magnus Bane in Shadowhunters, will play Astrid Leong’s (Gemma Chan) ex-boyfriend.

Crazy Rich Asians is currently in production in Singapore and Malaysia.
