The testimony of former FBI director James Comey before the Senate Intelligence Committee Thursday will be broadcast live on both cable news and broadcast outlets.
Among those scheduled to question him is first year California Senator Kamala Harris who has taken the mantle as an outspoken critic of the Trump Administration and who’s name continues to pop up as a potential candidate for President in 2020.
The Indian American and African American Senator will be the last in line to ask Comey a question due to her lack of seniority, but she remains undeterred.
“It’s going to be about being probative of the facts,” she said to the San Francisco Chronicle. She has spent her time “reviewing everything that has happened in previous hearings, reviewing public source documents…refining the calendar around some of the dates that we know certain conversations … occurred, where there were answers to certain questions and checking whether they’re consistent.”
An ABC News/Washington Post poll released this morning reveals six in 10 Americans believe President Trump fired Comey to protect himself and 56% believe he’s interfered in the Russian investigation.
Trump has been advised not to live tweet Comey’s testimony, but the unpredictable President is expected to watch closely.
“He’s infuriated at a deep-gut, personal level that the elite media has tolerated [the Russia story] and praised Comey,” former House speaker Newt Gingrich said to the Washington Post. “He’s not going to let some guy like that smear him without punching him as hard as he can.”
