Manny Pacquiao could get a bit of redemption following his upset defeat this weekend against Jeff Horn for the welterweight world title.
The unanimous decision by three judges in favor of Horn has been widely criticized.
Now the Sydney Morning Herald is reporting the World Boxing Organization has agreed to re-score the fight, although the victory of Horn can not be overturned.
Five anonymous judges will be part of the new round of judging.
“The purpose of this review is to be able to give the fans certainty of who was the winner of the bout, even though we do not have the power to reverse the decision of the judges,” said WBO president Francisco Valcarcel in a story published in India Today.
The review comes at the request of the Philippine government and follows Pacquiao saying he would support the review, while still respecting the original judge’s decision.
Some have alleged the fight was fixed.
“I would be very grateful if the GAB (Philippine Games and Amusements Board) can provide any evidence indicating fraud or violation of law,” said Valcarcel.
