The family of a Temple University professor wrongly charged with spying is suing the FBI for false arrest.
The Philadelphia Business Journal reports Xiaoxing Xi is joining the lawsuit originally filed by Xi in May.
Xi was arrested during a raid of his home in 2015, but the charges were dropped four months later when it became obvious federal prosecutors lacked an understanding of the research Xi was conducting.
He had been accused of sharing secrets with contacts in China.
“Professor Xi’s prosecution is indeed part of a disturbing string of recent cases in which Chinese Americans have been accused by the federal government of spying for China, only to have those charges later dropped with no explanation, no apology and no accountability,” Executive Director of Chinese for Affirmative Action Vincent Pan said in a statement.

Xi told the Philly.com in May that the arrest still haunts him.
“We cannot get rid of the thought that the FBI is reading every one of our emails and listening to our phone conversations,” Xi, 59, said. “I am determined to move on, but that’s there.”
