Asian Americans Increasing Visibility in Superhero Universe

Jamie Chung

Asian Americans are putting their own stamp on the otherly world of Marvel comics.

Jamie Chung is poised to play Blink in the upcoming Fox TV series, The Gifted..

Blink’s original name was Clarice Ferguson and was not intended to be Asian.

In the series, Blink has been renamed Clarice Fong in a nod to Chung’s Asian heritage, although she is Korean American.

“It’s nice that they were able to make her Asian … I think it’s an homage to Fan BingBing’s version of Blink. But I’m making it my own,” Chung explained to Fandom.

Fan BingBing played Blink in the 2014 movie, X-Men, Days of Future Past.

Blink is set to premiere October 2.

A three minute trailer was released this weekend at Comic Con.

Ant Man and the Wasp isn’t scheduled to be released until July 2018, but Marvel Studios Visual Development Supervisor & Concept Artist Andy Park has released his poster publicizing the film.

He also painted the poster for Thor: Ragnorak which will be released this coming November.

We’ve written about Ms. Marvel before, but did you know that the story of Kamala Khan is now required reading in at least one class?

Teacher Roman Colombo wrote about student reaction to Ms. Marvel for Monkeys Fighting Robots. As one of his students said “This is me. Kamala is me.”
