Mom Granted Visa to Visit Dying Daughter after Protest

A mother in Vietnam will get to see her dying daughter in the U.S. one last time after all, reports ABC7.

Up until now, the U.S. Embassy in Hanoi has refused to grant the mother a visa. A petition on Change.org along with a plea from Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-San Jose) changed that.

“She realizes that her mother will not be able to contain her own emotion, but the reunion is one that will be momentous for our family and in particular for Trinh, her husband Young, and her son David,” sister-in-law Kandice Nguyen said.

Trinh Phan,33, came to the U.S. in 2003 and became a U.S. citizen in 2010. She was diagnosed in July for Metastatic Stage 4 Lung Cancer and Acute Respiratory Disorder Syndrome. She is not a smoker.

“Just as any human being would have, is to hold on and to have that last wish be granted. So that you can leave and part this earth with some peace, some dignity, and grace,” said Nguyen to CBS5.
