ABC has committed to at least airing a pilot of a reboot of Greatest American Hero.
The series which originally ran in the 1980’s is being resurrected by Rachna Fruchbom who’s a writer for Fresh off the Boat, reports The Wrap.
Fruchborn will serve as executive producer alongside Nahnatchka Khan also of Fresh Off the Boat and Mandy Summers of Fierce Baby.
What makes this different is that the role of the hero will be played by an Indian American actress.
That role originally was played by a White actor, William Katt.
In the original, Katt donned a superhero outfit which gave him extraordinary powers. How he navigated that power was the source of much of the comedy material.
No one has been cast yet, but already there’s much speculation.
Marykate Jasper of Mary Sue has thrown out the names of Mindy Kaling and Hannah Simone.
Priyanka Chopra also comes to mind should anything happen to Quantico.
There are also many lesser known Indian American actresses out there. It might be nice to see a fresh face.
