Half-Japanese/Half-Mexican Rapper Towkio Could Be the Next Chicago Sensation

TowkioRapper Towkio was born Preston Oshita, son of a Japanese father and a Mexican mother on the South Side. His grandparents were in the Japanese internment camps, and here he is today. A rapper to make Chicago proud.

Towkio describes his genetic mashup to  Talking Shop. “my dad was Japanese on the South Side, my mom was Mexican on the South Side, and they end up meeting at a high school dance…and now you got Young Towki out here.”

Towkio’s part of the Save Money crew, a group of talented Chicago artists that was founded by Vic Mensa. He released .Wav Theory in 2015 and managed to feature another amazing Chicago artist, Chance the Rapper.

Towkio’s not finished yet. In 2017, he came out with his single, Drift. He’s now recording with Rick Rubin, co-founder of Def Jam Records, for his newest album.

“As of right now, it’s all Towki.” the hapa rapper says triumphantly at the end of his Talking Shop interview. “Chance is out here independent. So, we might have to change the game.”
