The adoptive father of a 3-year-old Indian girl is under arrest for suspected child endangerment in a suburb of Dallas, reports Raw Story.
Authorities say Wesley Mathews, 37, punished his daughter for not drinking her milk by sending her out alone in an alley behind her home.
NBC5 reports Sherin Matthews has been missing since Saturday.
Police said her father waited five hours to report Sherin missing.
“Mathews said he directed his daughter to stand near a large tree at approximately 3 a.m. (on Saturday) because she wouldn’t drink her milk,” an arrest affidavit said.
Sherin has a history of malnourishment from her time in India and is on a special diet. The father told police he saw coyotes in the area where he told his daughter to stand.
Wesley Mathews told police he went back out to get Sherin 15 minutes after he told her to go outside, but could not find her. The mother was sleeping during the incident and has not been charged.
