Series Featuring AAPI Actors Off to Good Start

Fresh Off the Boat

Several television series with Asian Americans in prominent roles either in front of the camera or behind the scenes are off the to a good start in the new fall season, according to information compiled by TV Series Finale.

ABC’sFresh Off the Boat is up nearly 20 percent after its first three episodes among the 18-49 advertiser friendly demographic. Airing after The Middle in its final season, FOTB is the 25th highest rated show of the season in this demo with 4.5 million viewers.

The Gifted on Fox is yet another addition to the superhero lineup dotting the television landscape. It features Jamie Chung as Blink, in this Marvel creation. So far its compiled a 1.5 rating in the demo, ranking it 22nd.

9JKL on CBS is in its first year has averaged a 1.6 or 8.2 million viewers and is the 16th highest rated show so far. The comedy cast includes Liza Lapira and Albert Tsai.

The cast of The Good Doctor on ABC includes Tamlyn Tomita and Irene Keng. Executive produced by Daniel Dae Kim and based on a Korean drama, The Good Doctor is the eighth highest rated show of the season among the 18-49 demo with a 2.2 rating.

NBC’s SuperStore with Nico Santos has a 1.2 rating and is up nearly 9 percent.

Faring poorly is Hawaii Five-O, sans Daniel Dae Kim and Grace Park. The show now in its eighth season, is down six percent.

Scorpion featuring Jadyn Wong is down 26 percent in the demo, but overall is the 36th highest rated show of the season.
 
Designated Survivor with Kal Penn and Maggie Q is down 19 percent on ABC and ranks 52nd.

Marvel’s Inhuman stars Ken Leung and Sonya Balmores is ranked 65th with a 0.8 rating.

  1. RE: Series Featuring AAPI Actors off to a good start: Criminal Minds has a new agent Matt Simmons played by Daniel Henney. This Korean American actor was (also) on Criminal Minds, Beyond Borders for 2 seasons before it was cancelled.
