The CW and CBS plan to develop the dramedy Make Divya Great Again written by Indian American writer Devanshi Patel.
Make Divya Great Again tells the story of an Indian American woman trying to clear her name in the “darkly comic accidental death” of her ex-fiance, according to Deadline.
The woman invents a perfect Indian boyfriend after her parents pressure her into an arranged marriage.
As she tries to circumvent the marriage as well as prove her innocence, the protagonist finds herself in situations that change her life forever.
Patel will co-executive produce the dramedy with the husband and wife team Eric and Kim Tannenbaum.
“I’m not making America great again, but CBS and CW are helping me Make Divya Great Again!,” Patel posted on Facebook Sunday.
Patel was earlier a staff writer of TBS’ Ground Floor and ABC’s Black-ish.
This is the first network sale for Patel, an alum of the Disney/ABC writing program. Patel, who started her career in stand up, is repped by APA and Hertzberg Media.
