Will Arizona be the Next State to Be Represented by an Asian American Leader in Congress?

Indian American journalist, businesswoman, and entrepreneur Anita Malik is running in 2018 to represent the 6th District of Arizona in Congress. Diya TV USA reports that the first-time candidate is hoping to take the seat of third term incumbent David Schweikert.

Given her experience as COO of a content marketing company, ClearVoice, it is no surprise that Malik announced her candidacy via a video. Furthermore, she has made it evident that her campaign will run in the digital space, for the most part.

“We plan to run a highly digital campaign. This is a grassroots effort with digital savvy on our side, I believe that is going to be a significant area that will help me, and the Indian American community will be a big support”.

She has made her disappointment with the current administration very clear and hopes to advocate for real change for the average American as a political representative.  “As a woman of color, I stand a better chance of making a difference and affecting real change if I run for federal office because the average hard-working American is fed up with our leaders in Washington and this administration’s lack of progress”.

Malik, being Indian American herself, takes a special interest in South Asian and Asian Americans. She acknowledged that “our stories are often ones of success, but that overlooks the struggles of so many. I will make sure those challenges, those stories are heard, and that we find solutions.”
