We always knew Justin Chon was someone to watch.
Now Hollywood’s elite is acknowledging it too.
The actor and director has been nominated for a Spirit Award in the category of “Kiehl’s Someone to Watch”for his film Gook.
The both humorous and emotionally riveting film about the Koreatown riots in Los Angeles in 1992 manages to both rip and tug at the heart at the same time.

It features the relationship between two young, but struggling Asian American shoe store owners and an African American girl.
The film which has played in major cities across the country and has been featured at numerous film festivals including Sundance where it opened to audience raves and critical acclaim. Chon both stars in and directed the film which is based on his family’s own personal experience with the Koreatown riots.
A win would come with a $25,000 unrestricted grant.
Chon is up against two other notables-Amman Abassi, director of Dayveon and Kevin Williams of Super Dark Times.
