Man Sentenced to 36 Years in Prison for Targeting Asians

U.S. District Judge Petrese Tucker didn’t mince any words when she sentenced a Philadelphia man for a series of home invasions targeting Asian business owners.

“This defendant is a violent recidivist,” the judge said.” “It’s important that he be deterred, and others. “The defendant has no respect for the law.”

Philly.com reports Tucker sentenced Tyree Mansell to 36 years and eight months in federal prison. Authorities say he committed four home invasion robberies immediately after getting out of prison for a similar home invasion robbery.

The victims were targeted because it was believed they kept lots of cash in their homes.

One man from South Korea lost $2000 he was saving to visit him homeland.

“Their threatening eyes and smiling faces when I first opened the door haunted me,”

The Asian Pacific American Bar Association of Pennsylvania and the Greater Philadelphia Chinese Restaurant Association submitted victim-impact statements along with several individuals.

The sentences of two other men in this case are pending, but Mansell was considered the ring leader. Authorities say Mansell’s nephew acted as a lookout in three robberies. His case is being handled in Delaware.

Praying and instilling fear people is wrong I wish that was a punishable offense also. I am glad the victims got justice. I just pray that what those criminals did doesn’t cause them to look badly or biased against other people of color. I can’t believe the defense actually tried to use the fact that he was part of the system contributed to his actions. No bullying and lack of self esteem did that.
