Amber Alert Issued for Missing Teen

Amy Yu

Police say a missing teen from Pennsylvania is believed to be with a 45-year-old man she mislead school officials into believing was her stepfather, reports ABC.

An Amber Alert has been issued for 16-year-old Amy Yu and Kevin Esterly.

Esterly signed her out of school early on March 5 and they have not been seen since.

Authority say the pair took a flight from Philadelphia International Airport to Cancun, connecting through Dallas.

Police feared releasing this information earlier would send the pair into hiding, reports Lehigh Valley Live.

The Department of Homeland Security is currently working with Mexican authorities and police to find Yu and Esterly.

Records show Yu altered school records to list Esterly as her stepfather. Yu is cared for by a single mother who says there is no stepfather.

Esterly is known to the family through church and Yu is friends with one of Esterly’s daughters.

“She ran away and she went with this 45-year-old man, Kevin Esterly. I know him. He was a family friend of mine,” said Yu’s brother Kevin to ABC6

Authorities describe their car as a 1999 red, two-door Honda Accord with the Pennsylvania plate KLT 0529.

(Editor’s Note: An earlier version of this story incorrectly reported the date of Yu’s disappearance)
