June 9 has been announced as the official date for the premiere of Big Hero 6 The Series, based on the 2014 film Big Hero 6, with season 2 already in production according to Entertainment Weekly. The animated series will be a regular program on Disney Channel.
In an official statement, executive producers Bob Schooley and Mark McCorkle have said, “The ‘Big Hero 6 The Series’ crew has been busy cooking up exciting new adventures for Hiro, his best friend Baymax and the rest of the Big Hero 6 team as they continue their journey together in San Fransokyo. We cannot wait for the audience to come along for the fast and funny ride.”
According to The Slanted, set to star in the animated series are Ryan Potter as Hiro, Scott Adsit as Baymax, Jamie Chung as Go Go, Khary Payton as Wasabi, Genesis Rodriguez as Honey Lemon, Brooks Wheelan as Fred, Alan Tudyk as Alistair Krei, Maya Rudolph as Aunt Cass, David Shaughnessy as Heathcliff, and Stan Lee as Fred’s dad.
Along with the main cast is an array of celebrity guest stars such as Gordon Ramsay, Alton Brown, John Michael Higgins, Diedrich Bader, Mara Wilson, and Disney alum Christy Carlson Romano.
The Collider reports that to promote the debut of the series, a series of shorts featuring Baymax will be available for viewing on Disney Channel, DisneyNOW, and Disney Channel YouTube. Merchandise will be available for purchase on May 1 on shopDisney.com and later available in stores on June 1. On June 26, a DVD titled Big Hero 6 The Series: Back in Action will also be available for purchase.
The premiere of the series will kick off with episode 1 on June 9 and episode 2 on June 10 at 9AM ET/PT. The following episodes will be air on Disney Channel at 9AM ET/PT on Saturdays every week through September.
The series is set to pick up after the events of the film and follow the adventures of the protagonist, Hiro, his robot friend, Baymax, and the rest of the Big Hero 6 team.
