Community Rallies to Restore Vandalized Chinatown Mural

Chicago Chinatown Mural vandalized
Go Fund Me

A Go Fund Me campaign set up after vandals destroyed a mural in Chicago’s Chinatown two days after being completed is nearing its goal.

In less than 48 hours, the campaign has raised $2400 of its stated $2,500 goal.

Block Club Chicago reports artists Andy Bellomo created the mural along with Chester Chow and Anna Murphy. The trio had been working on the mural since December and finally completed it on Friday.

The vandals struck sometime on Sunday.

“I was disappointed, obviously …,” Bellomo said to Block Club Chicago. “I was mostly sad for the community because we’ve been working together.”

The money is already being put to use for for paint, sealant and labor and the restoration is already underway.

The mural is located at Ping Tom Memorial Park.
