13 firefighters are recovering from their injuries following a fast moving fire at New York’s Szechuan Gourmet Restaurant, reports the New York Daily News.
Seven are listed in serious but stable condition at New York-Presbyterian Hospital Weill Cornell and NYU Langone Hospital. Most of the injuries were caused by heat exhaustion or being hit by debris.
NY Eater reports the New York Fire Department is blaming “careless cooking in [the] kitchen with extension into duct work” and the lack of smoke detectors for Tuesday night’s blaze.

“When we arrived it was very hot and smokey. This was a very stubborn fire,” FDNY Chief of Department James Leonard told Patch.
The building is six stories tall.
Witnesses report seeing heavy smoke, but one photo appeared to also show flames, according to Patch.
