Filipino Community Targeted in Suspected Human Trafficking Case

Rainbow Bright

59 criminal charges have been filed against the four owners and operators of adult day care and child care facilities accused of violations of human rights, worker rights, tax evasion and possession of illegal weapons, reports NBC Bay Area.

Rainbow Bright has at least six San Franciso Bay Area locations in Daly City, South San Francisco and Pacifica.

ABC7 News reports that State Attorney General Xavier Becerra believes the defendants targeted the Filipino community including recent immigrants.

“It was the workers who helped bring this case to light, and it is the workers who are the greatest victims of Rainbow Bright and its operations,” Becerra said to KTVU. “While the employees were providing by all accounts loving care, they were doing so under egregious circumstances.”

14 illegal assault weapons were also seized. Under arrest are Joshua, 42; Noel, 40; Gerlen, 38; and Carlina Gamos, 67.

They are accused of forcing workers to work nearly 24 hours a day and sleep on floors and in garages, and locking them outside in the rain when the owners were not home.
