A woman parked in a Houston Chinatown mall escaped serious injury after a violent burglary attempt, reports Click 2 Houston.
The suspect is seen smashing the window of a parked Mercedes and trying to steal a woman’s purse while she was sitting in the car. Failing in his efforts, he runs to the other side of the car . The woman driver jumps out and fights with the burglar as he tries to open the rear door. He grabs an item from inside the car before dropping it. He shoves the woman to the ground and runs off.
“The Chinese community tends to be targeted sometimes, because they’re known for carrying cash and not being willing to report those types of issues,” said Brian Burks, the director of security for the management district told KTRK.
“I was surprised how violent it actually was, someone being knocked to the ground,” said James Leyton, a customer at the bakery and café. “I love the businesses around here, the food is always fantastic, people are always so nice, but I guess crime can happen anywhere, even in places that we know and love.”
