Ten months after two Asian American candidates running for the Edison, NJ school board were the targets of a racist campaign flyer, its still not known who’s responsible.
News 12 reports the town council hopes to change that and has asked the New Jersey State Attorney General to investigate.
There has been some speculation an investigation has already been launched, but the office of Attorney General Gurbir Grewal refuses to confirm that.
On the flyers, the word “deport” was plastered under the pictures of Jerry Shi and Falguni Patel who both went on to be elected to the Edison School Board.
The mailers also had the caption Make Edison Great Again, a play on President Trump’s slogan, Make America Great Again.
“The Chinese and Indians are taking over our town. Chinese school! Indian school! Cricket fields! Enough is enough,” the mailers declared.
“The council’s resolution clearly expresses my sentiments, too,” Democratic Mayor Thomas Lankey said to NJ.com. “I was first to denounce that racist flier last November. I was first to alert law enforcement and demand a full investigation to find the person or persons responsible.”
