LA News Host Apparently Surprised NCT 127 Member from Canada Speaks English

A passing comment made by a TV news personality in Los Angeles to a member of South Korean boy band NCT 127 is inciting controversy on social media.

During an appearance on Good Day LA on KTTV, Vanessa Borge made a comment about member Mark Lee being from Canada.

“Vancouver, yeah, he replied.

“Very cool, your English is awesome, I love it,” Borge responded.

You can watch the brief clip below.

@haspuwu explained why he found the comment offensive.

“Being told “Your English is good” when you grew up in a English speaking country or any scenario. Is NOT a compliment. Don’t do that and look dumb,” he wrote.

While some scolded @haspuwu for telling people when to be offended, others agreed.

  1. RE: LA News Host Apparently Surprised NCT 127 Member from Canada Speaks English: This is some real dumb sht to be offended about. The comment was unnecessary but the assumption it was based on wasn’t unreasonable. The guy assumed that a Korean guy in a a South Korean boy band was a native South Korean who spoke Korean natively………….. not like he was a Asian guy in a American or Canadian band in which case it would be different. At the end of the day it’s still some petty sht to be offended over.

  2. RE: LA News Host Apparently Surprised NCT 127 Member from Canada Speaks English: He should have said your English is good too.
