A store owner won’t be charged in a deadly shooting of a robber, reports the New York Post.
Jin Jie Chen of J Market in the Bronx shot and killed Daniel Meeks, 32, in the head after Chen said Meeks jumped over the counter to rob him.
“He was shot in the face. You could see the guy hunched over, laying on the counter,” a man who worked nearby said to the New York Daily News. “There was blood all over, and you could see it all over his face, but he was dead.”
Sources told the Post Meeks had been in the market earlier Monday and took another customer’s money off the counter.
Chen had a valid gun permit and Meeks is said to have a criminal record dating back to 2006. Just last week, he was busted for petit larceny, cops said. Police also arrested Meeks for criminal mischief on July 16 and again on July 18. WABC reports police did not find a gun on Meeks.
“They are just very hard-working people,” said Miguel Rosario, a frequent customer of the market said to the Post. He said Chen “does a lot for the neighborhood. He’s really into the community board.”
