Sandra Oh Discloses Mixed Feelings about Hosting the 2019 Golden Globes

Award-winning Asian Canadian actress Sandra Oh is both frightened and excited to co-host the upcoming 2019 Golden Globes in two weeks along with American actor and comedian Andy Samberg.

Oh made Emmy Awards history this year as the first Asian woman to be nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her role on BBC America’s Killing Eve. She told Hollywood Reporter that while initially worried about having the typical emcee persona, she is “terrified! I am super thrilled, so it’s the good terror. It’s like when you have to do something and you can’t see how you could possibly pull it together, but that uncertainty excites you.”

She and her co-host Samberg, who is acclaimed for his satirical comedy on Saturday Night Live and Brooklyn 99, have presented an award at the Emmys in September, according to CNN, where they executed “well-timed banter that earned their short appearance praise.” Oh recalls that she “adores” Samberg and that they “just immediately had a rapport.”

The last duo to host the Golden Globes were best friends Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, whose stunning performance earned them encores in the two following Golden Globes ceremonies.

The duo have high expectations to meet in a performance that will serve as yet another milestone for Asian representation in Hollywood. NBC Entertainment co-chairmen Paul Telegdy and George Cheeks told Variety that “Sandra and Andy are the perfect choices to host this world-class event. They bring wit, charm and style to a room filled with the very best of film and television. It’s sure to be another unforgettable fun-filled night.”

The 76th Annual Golden Globe Awards will air live on Sunday, Jan. 6 from 5-8 p.m. PT.
