Police in Vacaville, CA have arrested Adul Saosongyang, 35, on suspicion of stealing his roommates winning lottery ticket, reports CNBC.

Authorities says both thought the winning ticket was worth $10,000, but it turned out to be worth 1000 times that-$10 Million.

The roommate, whose name has not been publicly released at his request, bought a $30 scratch off ticket on December 20. He said he told Saosongyang. When the real winner went to the lottery office to claim his winnings, lottery officials told him something wasn’t right with the ticket-that it had been altered. He pointed the finger at his roommate.

“The next day his suspicions were proven true when his 35-year-old roommate, Adul Saosongyang attempted to cash in the winning ticket at the Lottery’s Sacramento District Office. Adul was told his winning ticket was not worth $10,000 dollars, but was actually worth $10 million dollars!, wrote the Vacaville Police Department on Facebook.

Police say based on surveillance video they’ve examined, they believe Saosongyang bought a similar ticket, altered it and swapped it with the winning ticket.

When Sasongyang was invited back to the lottery office to collect his winnings, he was arrested.
