Disney could introduce its first Latina princess in a possible sequel to the hit film Moana, reports the Business Times.

Released in 2016, Moana is Disney’s first film featuring a Pacific Islander princess as the titular hero.

Recent accounts have revealed that Hamilton creator and star Lin-Manuel Miranda is planning on continuing the story of Moana, while also introducing the first Latina Disney princess.

While Miranda has not commented on the future of Moana, his father Luis Miranda revealed in an interview with Page Six that Miranda Jr. is developing plans for the Moana sequel.

“He is talking to Disney about a sequel to Moana, but the movie would be about a Latina princess,” Miranda’s father said.

While the Disney Channel does have Elena of Avalor, there has not yet been a theatrical film featuring a Latina princess. This development demonstrates Disney’s efforts to showcase the diversity of its audience on screen.

The Business Times reports it’s unclear what would happen to Moana in any possible sequel or if there could be two separate projects-one with Moana and another, a follow up to Moana, that would introduce a Latina princess.
