Crazy Rich Asians Stars Misidentified by Two Magazines

Gemma Chan Mixed up with Liv Lo

Two major celebrity publications are being called out for misidentifying several Asian American actors.

Social media star Noor Tagouri, a prominent Muslim American journalist, flagged two separate mistakes made by Vogue.

The publication mistook Tan Kheng Ha, who played Rachel Chu’s supportive mother in Crazy Rich Asians, for Michelle Yeoh.

In the same issue, Vogue misidentified Gemma Chan (Astrid Leong in Crazy Rich Asians) as Liv Lo, who is Henry Golding’s wife.

People made similar mistakes, according to Ronny Chieang.

People mixed up Chieng with Randall Park, who’s not even in Crazy Rich Asians. It also put Jae W Suh in the picture she did not appear in. Suh is the wife of Park and appears in the Netflix series Friends from College.

Alan Chan found humor in the misstep saying “I think Scarlett Johansson is in this pic tho.”

Actress Tamlyn Tomita didn’t hold back replying ” “all Asians look alike” kind of thinking in full effect here. Or what is the excuse this time?

Vogue is also finding itself the target of ridicule.

One Twitter user called the mistake “shameful.”

Another simply said Hey @voguemagazine. Do better.

So far neither publication has publicly responded to the Tweets.
