Filipino American actress Krystle Piamonte is starring in Lauren Yee’s semi-autobiographical play King of the Yees, Inquirer.net reports.
With Piamonte playing a dramatized version of playwright Lauren Yee, the play focuses on Yee’s conflict between her father’s attachment to tradition and her adoration for modern Chinese culture. After her father went missing, Yee goes on a journey in which she learns more about Chinese culture and why tradition is important to her father.
Other Filipino American actors starring in the play alongside Piamonte include Rinabeth Apostol and Jomar Tagatac, both playing multiple roles.
Even though the story takes place in San Francisco, this is the first instance of it being staged in the bay area city, Menafn reports.
King of the Yees by playwright Lauren Yee will be available in San Francisco at the San Francisco Playhouse until March 2.
