Racial Slur Used to Describe Chinese Hat on Amazon

Chinaman Hat

By Louis Chan, AsAmNews National Correspondent

A display ad on Amazon promoting a so-called “Chinaman” hat depicts a mannequin head with a pigtail wearing a Chinese-themed beanie.

Unlike the term Irishman, “chinaman” has been used derisively and is not a term of endearment or even a neutral one.

It has long been considered a racial slur by Asians.

The hat is sold by Bristol Novelty, a third party vendor on Amazon. AsAmNews has reached out to Bristol Novelty requesting that they change their ad. We have also reached out to Amazon, but if the past is any indication, the internet giant will ignore our inquiries.

Those interested in expressing your opinion about this ad to Bristol can contact the company at [email protected]. If you’re an Amazon customer, contact customer service.

  1. RE: Racial Slur used to Describe Chinese Hat on Amazon: It’s because Irish is an adjective. The proper English would be Chinese man. The use of China is to mock the accent.
